MEET THE OWNER AND CREATOR, Rachel Hall Taravella
Rachel Hall Taravella
Owner and Creator
Rachel is an accomplished architect and designer with an affinity for fashion. Many people ask how she made the jump from architect to boutique owner.
Throughout her time at architecture school, she composed a successful fashion blog comparing the design similarities between clothing and structures. This blog was a tool in developing her personal style simultaneous to her architecture, which manifested into her minimalist sensibility.
In 2014, she made the decision to evolve the blog into Monomin, the online boutique. Monomin's namesake came from the two most fundamental components of her architecture - Monochromatic and Minimal.
In 2016, her dreams were realized when she opened Monomin's doors at its first brick and mortar location at 2104 Magazine Street. Rachel's focus was to provide well-made, effortlessly beautiful clothes for the modern woman at affordable price points. Today, she has grown the company to be recognized in several publications as well as recently voted the #1 Women's Boutique in New Orleans 2020 by the Gambit readers.
Since the pandemic and world-wide shutdown, Rachel adapted her business to accommodate the growing home market and become more accessible online. She designed a more comprehensive website, established an exclusive online shop community and even developed Monomin's very own app. Currently, she is writing a book to discuss her business strategies while maintaining a life balance, in hopes that it can help other entrepreneurs, specifically women and moms.
When not at Monomin, she operates her design company Taravella Design-Build as lead architect and principal. She raises her two daughters, Harlow and Jolie, with her husband Aaron in the historic district of New Orleans.
